Julie Wintrebert

Born in Paris in 1964, I have been living in Brittany for 25 years. Self-taught and persevering, I have undoubtedly kept from my childhood a certain taste for images since my father who worked at Kodak used to overwhelm us with family slides.

Then, thanks to a job in the hotel business, I was able to travel and discover extreme landscapes, from the glaciers of the North to the sands of the South. This opened my eyes and my appetite!

Sensitive to atmospheres, I quickly let my imagination take over.

When I take a picture, it is often without a precise goal. I don’t necessarily get attached to a particular subject, but rather I look for an atmosphere, a climate that makes me want to invent a story. It is often from an insignificant image that new worlds appear. It is at this moment that an exciting work begins: It is necessary to force oneself to look even better, to find a thread, an aesthetic coherence. Sometimes my vision of things is a bit whimsical, and so I try to arrange myself a bit with reality and to bring a poetic dimension to it. I don’t have a preferred style; I can go from a rather minimal and pure universe to a more graphic and structured world, but also to more dramatic and eventful creations. I also love painting, as a child I used to collect reproductions of paintings and cover the walls, turning my room into a real museum.

Today, I walk my eyes and my camera with more and more curiosity. And with the help of technology and post-processing software, I can go towards more subjective images that better express my emotions and my thoughts.
